Title: Damien 2009 Edition no: 5/20 Media: Etching Image size 120 x 95 mm Paper size 350 x 250 mm Born 1961 in NZ to Polish parents Basia completed a Visual Communication Design Diploma at Wellington Polytechnic 1981 and a Postgraduate diploma in printmaking from Camberwell school of Art and Craft, London 1989 Recently she completed a Postgraduate diploma in Fine Arts at Massey University, School of Fine Arts, Wellington 2007 With twenty years of teaching experience in the arts, Basia continues to tutor at local private and public institutions teaching printmaking and drawing alongside her own art practice. She has a printing press in her studio at home in Newtown where she prints works on paper and also produces computer cut vinyl and hand cut designs sandblasted on glass, mirror and metal. Her new prints reflect upon the issues concerning waste found on the natural coastline, rivers and built environment. Basia recycles found objects and creates new representations of the human figure using discarded and low materials to reconstruct a contemporary portrait of the human face. |
