Guity EVELYN

Title: Passion
Dimensions: 210x290
Media: Pure pigments, gold dust on paper

Guity Evelyn grew up in the South of France, and has settled in Opoutere, on the beautiful coast of the Coromandel. She paints original works which are proving popular to a vast audience and her works are sought after by both international and New Zealand collectors. She has a feel for the elements and forces which formed the Coromandel, those rich hues of clay from its fiery volcanic past; and for the sea, aqueous and everpresent. Her distinctive works are likewise of two worlds - the figurative and abstract, often inspired by the works of Matisse and Chagall, they reflect the spiritual bond between humanity and the elements and a primordial kinship with the creatures of the sea. They are about life - a celebration of Nature, her beauty and her powers.

Painting with a variety of media,  Guity makes most of her paints using oils, acrylics, natural pigments, and metallic fragments. She has developed various unique and elaborate techniques which give her works on paper their strong colour and luminosity, and an astounding depth.

“Passion” is a piece showing a recurring figure in her creations.

The original text around the face, translates as:

“There is a passion in your eyes, my beautiful friend, a passion for life and everything that surrounds you, a curiosity and a never ending love. Everything touches you and blinds you as you are a sacred child with a heart…pure and light…a divine treasure…”

She and her husband, David, a jeweller, welcome visitors to their home studio overlooking Wharekawa Harbour and Opoutere Beach, between Pauanui and Whangamata.
