The Treaty of Waitangi.  The treaty in this interpretation was ripped centrally down the center and displaced in the creation of this piece.  This is to emphasise the displacement which is still apparent in today’s society and culture, between the Maori and the Europeans, with the ownership of land and resources of Aotearoa still under resolve.  The unfair treatment of the Maori over the treaty of Waitangi is symbolized by the red river down the center being  the blood which was spilt  of both the Maori and the European at this time. The black and white is the joining together  of the cultures in hope of  harmony.  These are the stepping stones toward the respect and understanding of the great native culture the Maori, in our great Aotearoa.
