The romance continues for one of Auckland’s most eagerly-awaited art auctions.

ARt With LoVe - held at Richmond Road School in Ponsonby - is back for the 4^th year in a row and, this time, viewers can also be voters.

Dubbed "the 4th RoMANce", the event is a major fund-raiser for the inner-city school, giving buyers the chance to purchase works by the likes of Karl Maughan and Edith Amituanai in a relaxed environment with no dealer commission.  Both artists have children at the school. 

Each year they, and other talented parents, friends and galleries donate artworks 100% “with love” and the proceeds are used to support children’s learning at the multi-lingual school.

Professional auctioneers Ben Plumbly and James Parkinson – from ART + OBJECT – will once again conduct the auction, which starts at 6.30pm on Tuesday 11^th November. Viewing begins on Friday, 7 November, and continues over election weekend so people voting at the school’s polling booth can also admire the artworks.

Plumbly said he was delighted to be involved for the fourth year running. “It’s a great event - very successful and very well-organised. We love being involved in ARt with LoVe which has a great reputation throughout Auckland's visual arts community.”

Principal Stephanie Anich said: “We have to raise $100,000 every year just to keep the school running so ARt with LoVe is a key event for us. The money raised from the auction will enable us to continue funding our classes and promoting the arts with our children.

“We are lucky to have so many passionate and talented New Zealand artists supporting our school and are extremely grateful for their involvement.”

The three previous auctions have raised between $40,000 and $60,000 for Richmond Road School.

This year, about 40 paintings, photographs, sculptures and objet d’art will go under the hammer.
